Prostatic Acid Phosphatase - PAP

General Product Information: PAP is isolated from human seminal fluid and is available in two forms. It is supplied as a liquid in 10mM Tris, 150mM Sodium Chloride, 0.1% Sodium Azide, pH 7.2 ± 0.1, or as a powder lyophilized from 10mM Sodium Phosphate, pH 6.5 ± 0.01. The protein concentration is determined by the Lowry Protein Assay, (BSA standard).

Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PAP) catalyzes the dephosphorylation of organic monophosphate esters, demonstrating optimum activity at acidid pH. Produced by the prostatic epithelium, serum levels of PAP are very low in healthy individuals (0 - 5 ng/ml), but are often elevated in malignant and benign prostatic disease. As such, immunoassays for PAP serum levels are useful in monitoring disease progression in prostate cancer.
