Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (M0614) is supplied as a lyophilized preparation with a purity of >95% by SDS-PAGE.
This protein belongs to the alpha-2-globulin family of human plasma proteins and functions as an inhibitor of proteases of all classes. A2M is also involved in the fibrinolytic system and the transport of zinc. It is also known to promote the growth of mammalian cells in culture and stimulate the regeneration of lymphocytes in mice.
Elevated serum levels of A2M are associated with liver cirrhosis, nephritic syndrome, diabetes, and severe burn cases. A2M is also being investigated in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.
