α2-Macroglobulin

α2-Macroglobulin

α2-Macroglobulin (A2M) belongs to the α2-globulin family of human plasma proteins and functions as an inhibitor of proteases of all classes. A2M is also involved in the fibrinolytic system and the transport of zinc. It is also known to promote the growth of mammalian cells in culture and stimulate the regeneration of lymphocytes in mice.

Elevated serum levels of A2M are associated with liver cirrhosis, nephritic syndrome, diabetes, and severe burn cases. A2M is also being investigated in the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

This preparation of A2M (cat. no. M0614) is supplied as a lyophilized preparation with a purity of >95% by SDS-PAGE.
