Streptavidin

General Product Information

Streptavidin is purified from a bacterial source, streptomyces avidinii, and supplied as a lyophilized solid. It is >95% pure by HPLC and >95% protein by dry weight. Activity is measured using biotin as substrate and is approximately 15U/mg.

Streptavidin is a biotin binding protein and consists of four identical subunits each of which binds one molecule of biotin. Streptavidin and biotin are routinely conjugated to indicator enzymes for use in diagnostic kit development and manufacturing. Unlike avidin, streptavidin does not contain a carbohydrate moiety which minimizes non-specific binding.
