Avidin
General Product Information
Avidin is purified from egg whites and supplied in a lyophilized form. This protein is assayed at a minimum of 10 U/mg protein.
Avidin is a glycoprotein containing four essentially identical subunits each of which forms an extremely tight complex with biotin. This affinity makes avidin very useful in the construction of avidin/biotin based diagnostic formats. Avidin and biotin are routinely conjugated to indicator enzymes, such as horseradish peroxidase and alkaline phosphatase, for use in diagnostic kit development and manufacturing.
