Creatine Kinase MM (CK-MM) is predominantly found in skeletal muscle, yet it is also the primary CK isoenzyme present in heart muscle. In fact, serum levels of CK-MM elevate as early as six hours after the onset of myocardial infarction (MI). Serum assays for CK-MM are sensitive for the detection of MI, but lack cardiac tissue specificity and, therefore, are used in conjunction with serum assays for the other CK isoenzymes, CK-MB and CK-BB, to confirm MI diagnosis.
This preparation of CK-MM is isolated from human skeletal muscle and is provided as a liquid in 5mM Sodium Succinate, 10mM Sodium Chloride, 1mM EDTA, 5mM β-Mercaptoethanol, 50% Glycerol, pH 7.0 ± 0.1. Purity is ≥98% by SDS-PAGE.
Note: This product is not packaged by mass (e.g., mg), but by the unit. One unit is defined as that amount of enzyme required to convert 1 μmole of creatine phosphate to creatine per minute at an assay temperature of 30°C.
