Purity Determined by CEA/Total Protein Ratio

General Product Information

Native CEA is isolated from human tissue or fluids, while the cell culture form is isolated from a human colon carcinoma cell line. The native form is supplied as a liquid in either 10mM Potassium Phosphate, 100mM Sodium Chloride, pH 7.2 - 8.2, containing 0.1% Sodium Azide (C0222), or in 10mM Tris, pH 8.0 ± 0.1, containing 0.1% Sodium Azide (C0223 & C0224). The cell culture form is supplied as a powder lyophilized from PBS containing 0.1% Sodium Azide. Specific protein is determined by immunoassay. Purity is determined by SDS-PAGE or estimated by the CEA/Total Protein ratio.

Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) is a glycoprotein that is expressed in a variety of secretory tissues. CEA is thought to be involved in intercellular recognition and attachment in the development and proliferation of various metastases. Elevated serum levels of CEA are associated with several malignant states, and immunoassays for CEA have been used for several years in monitoring many such malignancies.

Note: Monoclonal Antibodies are available for CEA.
